Update July 29, 2003

We were happy to have madame x over early this evening for conversation and help so that we can understand how to update the website in the near future. studio x (David and Nancy) are our dear friends who own said business (studio x) here in Santa Fe and they have been the saints of the johnandlucinda.com website. They are heading to Europe for biz and pleasure soon and so Tull and Marker will try to learn the very simplistic updating system developed just for us by studio x.

Pollard came to the Tull and Marker rescue today (we just lost track of the schedule and had to call on him) and Paul and Bo came by tonight. Tull spent some time today tearfully reading the bags full of cards sent by all of you while we were in NYC. He had never seen them and there were also a few cards/letters from our earlier days in Albuquerque which he just now read. Thanks to all of you.

We will say once again that we could never be where we are today without all of you. How could we possibly survive without the whacky proposals for the "Name the Chair" contest? Keep them coming!!

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 28, 2003 Enter the "Name the Chair" Contest - see details on July 28th - archive

Dear Friends and Family,

Weve been having a great time around here.Trey Tull just left after a two day visit and Jeff and Sara are here with the too cute for words two year old Cameron.(We are going to try to take some pictures to post later today.)

Jim and Julie Ann came by for dinner last night.Trey repaired our gas grill (probably the fourth appliance to break down in the last two weeks).Jeff and Sara are getting their green chili fix since they now live in LA where there is NO Northern New Mexican food.

We also all drove over to Ginnys for a Search and Rescue team party on Saturday night. That was Tulls second outing that day.Trey drove him around up the ski basin road and they had a Berts burger in the car.

So were all having fun and were really enjoying the Name the Chair contest.Time is running out so get your names in now.

Love,
John and Lucinda

P.S. Mark September 27th on your calendars.More later.

Update July 25, 2003 Enter the "Name the Chair" Contest - see details on July 24th - archive

Dear Friends and Family,

What a day this has been, what a rare mood we're in, well it's almost like falling in love.

Tull stood up today from his wheelchair to the walker FIVE times all by himself. He and Terry (P.T. extraordinaire) did the first four; Shirley (fab nurse) and Lucinda were the "stand-by crew" for the last one.Shirley had just removed the Picc line!!!!!!Lucinda observed and assisted the Picc line removal while Tull shut his eyes. No pain, no nothing.Great job by Shirley.

More delectable food delivered to our door by members of the United Church of Santa Fe. We are so grateful to be affiliated with such a church.

Great day.Happy Friday to all.Keep the names for the "Chair" coming. We have already been pretty dad-gum amused.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 24, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

The "Name the Chair" contest is officially on. Please post your suggestions to the website. The judging will be purely subjective (Tull will probably pick the name) and the winner and a guest of his or her choice will be treated to a full-blown Texa sbarbecue dinner here at the Tull/Marker ranch.Transportation will be provided by the winner (or anyone else he or she may be able to talk into providing said transportation). We'll give this a week so get your names in by August 1.Good luck.

Tull's "transfers" get better each day and are thus less strenuous for Lucinda and whoever is here with us at the moment. He looks younger and better each day and has a grand sense of humor.

Today is a very big day as he will get his last intravenous antibiotic treatment and will have the Picc line pulled!!!No more IV equipment decorating the living room and no more late night and early morning "flushings".Also, we will have the freedom of not absolutely having to be here everyday at 4 or 5.We are most pleased to have made it through these 6 weeks without another infection!

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 23, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Incredible home-made cookies arrived at our door from Chrissie and her daughter Katy in NYC today.A number of people were here to enjoy them (David B., Kate G., Chryssa, Paul and Kerri). They are FABULOUS!

Tull made the unfortunate mistake of asking his occupational therapist for a glass of water today. She said "you get your own glass of water" and promptly had him up at the sink, balancing himself while putting a glass of under the faucet!! This woman is from Amarillo and said that she has raised enough sons to know how to deal with JT. Lucinda believes her and is most happy to have her here.

We have had several people mention that the new motorized wheelchair should have a name.We will launch the official wheelchair naming contest tomorrow. So think about it in the meantime and we will think about the prize for the winning name.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 22, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Yesterday morning Lucinda walked into the kitchen while Tull was working with his OT (Lucia) and found Tull standing up by himself at the kitchen sink. Lucia (with the help of our friend David) managed to get him to stand up from the new motorized wheelchair without his walker. He held onto the sink and lifted himself and then stood for a few seconds gazing out the kitchen window. He said he was scared out of his wits, but he did it.

The new chair is quite powerful and a big help in terms of pressure release. Tull circled the outside of the house yesterday (over gravel, dirt, weeds and ruts) in the chair with our home health worker Roland watching over him. He was thrilled to see our house from all directions.

Everything is looking great at this point. Tull's skin is healing, he is getting stronger all the time, and we continue to get help from so many people. We have so many caring visitors, folks from the United Church of Santa Fe bringing food, friends and neighbors doing repair work and watering plants, Ellie and Maryanne giving massages. We have a new exercise table in our garage which will be great for Tull to work out on. Thank you Paul and Karin. John W. came over from Amarillo to pay a visit so that he can understand how to take care of JT while Lucinda gets away for a few days next month to visit and take care of some things for her mother and grandmother in Ohio.

Thank you all. We simply would not be here without you. Pics are of the new chair and of Tull and our current nurse Shirley.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 18, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We really enjoyed having Katy and her friend John here for a visit the last couple days. They are headed off on a very interesting post-graduation road trip.

Tull is "transferring" better and feeling just a little bit stronger each day. We are on the countdown now for the end of the intro-venous antibiotics at which time the picc line will finally be removed! We have just one more week to go. There have been no further fevers or any indication of infection so we are VERY happy.

The BBC has asked if they could come back and film just a bit more for their upcoming documentary as they have been following the progress and feel that it is significant enough to update. We certainly feel that way as well although at times we lose perspective as we spend each day with each other and are not as aware of the changes. It is always good to get the feedback from others (like our Beth Israel therapists!).

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 17, 2003
Dear Friends and Family,

Tull with dogs is the pic of the moment. May we say that the Delts have been a very special group who have come through for us in a huge way?? Lucinda knew just a couple of these guys and her heart is moved by what they have all done. Tom Pollard spent the day today with Tull while Lucinda ran errands and held meetings. Roy Spence has done amazing things and we can only just begin our thanks.

We also want to try to thank Jeff Fagley and his family. What a builder...what a human being.

John's daughter Liza is her tonight and that means much to JT.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 15, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

What would you do if we sang out of tune?We think we know.Thank you to all who have done so much in the last week or so (Roy, Judy, Shelby and Karin, David and Nancy,David S., Kelly and Ben, Debra, Talitha and Ben and members of United Church of Santa Fe who have been just terrific, Marty and Toni, Spence and Susie, Bob and Edy, Frank and Toni, Frank and Alice, Mona, Janie, Terry, Lucia, Shirley, Karen, Paul and Kerri,Pollards, Lee, Sloan, Malinda, Shelia, Will, Rick, Chase, Ann, Tom and Julie, Jim and Julie Ann, Geraldine, Dorothy, Kate and Walter, Kate and Mac and each and every one of you who have written to us in the last week). And we are sorry to have missed the other 20 or so names, we are grateful to you all and thank you all .

Tull walked again today with Malinda, Mark Pearson (visiting fromTokyo) and Ben.He is now doing stand pivots for most of his transfers.

We get by with a little help from our friends.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 12, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

It is a beautiful summer evening here in Northern New Mexico. We have all been complaining about the heat, but it is nothing compared to what most of you in the humid parts of the country have to deal with.

Tull walked another 200 ft. yesterday with this PT and is working more with weights (thanks Debby and Frank). Our very good infectious disease doc came to make a house call yesterday and said that Tull has made the expected amount of progress given the devastation of his illness. That was good to hear.We all get impatient and want everything to be solved, but it will all take time and enormous effort.

Thanks again to everyone for their support and love.We continue to feel that we have been surrounded by amazingly good people.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 9, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Our lives are filled with newness each day. Tull attended his first search and rescue team this evening since late October. He was warmly greeted with a standing ovation and cheers.

Lucinda has been very busy with work and with trying to keep up with the new routines to help JT with OT and PT.

Thought we would include a cheerier picture tonight. Our first trip out was on July 4th for the wedding reception of our good friends Ken and Annie. The theme was tropical.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 7-8, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull and Lucinda came across several dramatic photos which date back to mid-November in New York. We were quite moved when we saw them as we thought about how far we have come. The attached photo is of JT in a very deep coma in the Beth Israel ICU at a time when we was in very, very bad shape.

Yesterday Tull walked another 200 feet outside on our beautiful portal. Wednesday night he will be picked up by team members to attend his first Atalaya Search and Rescue meeting since October 30th. He is still the president of the team and cant wait to start bossing everyone around again. Lucinda has been stressed out with work and care giving, but we still make each other laugh at least a couple times a day and are oh so very grateful to have come this far.

Love and thanks to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 6, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks Wendy, for thanking us. But even though we do go through some very difficult periods (we would be lying if we said that everything was always as rosy as this website may seem) we really are grateful for what we have and the people we have around us. We are just sorry to not be able to remember and mention more birthdays and thanks to all of you.

Speaking of that, Johns cousin Mike and his lovely daughter Sylvia came by from Abilene, Texas the other day and stayed most of the morning. It was great to see them both and Sylvia was quite an impressive young lady.

Today we were visited by Debra B. and her great son Gabe as well as Ben from our church (who has come up with some brilliant ideas as to how to help JHT transfer more effectively). We enjoyed lunch brought by Kelly and Ben from Corrales and Al (our home health aid) made a great breakfast for Mona, John and Lucinda this morning. Bob Z. brought dinner last night made by Edy.

How does it get any better?

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 4-5, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Happy Independence Day to all. We work on independence daily and depend on people to help get us there. So how ironic is that word.independence. We all need to be independent, but how do we get there and how independent are we really? And then what is co-dependent and how do we all really know the difference? Hopefully, we are just nice to each other. Hopefully, we treat each other with respect at all times. Thats what we think it may all mean.

Mona is here with us right now and that is a big help toward our independence. We missed the birthday of someone who has been almost a saint. Lucinda and Paul Wonsek have been friends for almost 30 years. He and his wife Sally have been incredible. Wonsek, cannot tell you enough about what you have been to us and about your wife (who my husband loves beyond belief and so do I). Happy Birthday to you, my friend (from Lucinda). You are an an amazing human being.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update July 3, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

This is a very special day for a few reasons. First, this is the 10 year anniversary of JHT first being involved with search and rescue. He had his first mission late at night on July 3, 1993 to rescue a man who had severe altitude sickness and was near death in our mountains. Second, Tull and Lucinda first met right after he was through with that mission on the late morning of July 4, 1993 during a mountain biking trip/picnic which was attended by people who are still our very good friends. Third, we think that Tull will sleep in the big bed tonight for the first time. He was in our rented hospital bed until his PT today suggested that he really can move on. And so we think he will.

Also, as Lucinda headed out to a meeting today JHT and his PT were on a serious walk where he accomplished an absolute record of 200 feet. We are very happy, but we are so sorry to miss the pancake breakfast on the Plaza.

Tomorrow will be our first joint venture into the world (other than doc visits) and we will be attending a wedding not far from here for about an hour.

Thank you Toni and Marty, Paul, Bo, Sloan, Al, Roland. Julie and Tom, feel well soon.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 2, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull walked about 150 ft. today (record breaker) and on very little sleep. He was not comfortable last night and we were both awake most of the night.Lucinda had to head out to a meeting as he was heading for his first round though the house, but she could tell that he and therapist Terry were doing great work while backed up by our neighbor Spence.Tull then had a visit from his OT who came up with some great work for him to do on his own.We both had a very busy day and we are once again grateful to our good friends, neighbors, nurse and home health aids who have been here to help (Mac Smith.you are wonderful).

We are still concerned about potential pressure point break-down.Motorized wheelchair is to be delivered tomorrow and that hopefully will help.

Tonight Tull was wheeling by a table and asked Lucinda if a glass of water on the table was his.It was and he picked the glass up, drank from it and put it down.Lucinda remembered the times in the last 8 months when he could not lift a finger, swallow, speak, of even breath on his own.Is life amazing, or what?

Happy Birthday to madame x and Cameron.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update July 1, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Why do computers, cars and phones all break down at the same time?

Tull walked today for the very first time without a therapist. Lucinda and her sister Malinda got him up and to the fridge with very little effort. Our cushy furniture has proved problematic as it is hard for anyone (let alone someone trying to learn to walk again) to get up and down. We kind of spilled JHT upon return from the walk and the couch took a big slide and we all lost our breath for a moment. We were not quite able to lift the big boy back up so we made do until a third person arrived. We believe that the arrival of the real wheelchairs will help with this situation. We are still depending on a loaner.

We have a pic of the group having dinner on our portal Monday night. Tonight we had a great couple from our church who came to help us out as we did not have a home health aid available. Talitha has helped put us in touch with a few folks from the church. We have always depended on the kindness of strangers.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update June 30, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We had a really nice Monday. Home health early in the morning, David Smith and Rick Scibelli both came up from Albuquerque as did Malinda and Sheila. Maryanne and Roland were here later and Cafe Pasquale's provided some great food.

Tull walked again with his PT and did so very well. Both Rick and David were impressed with the progress he has made. So may fewer "oh"s and so many more breaths. We have info on how to keep the pressure sores at bay and look forward to getting the required equipment in the next few days. Also, JHT realizes how much work he still has to build his muscles.

Keep writing dear friends.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 27-29, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

It is Sunday night and we have spent a wonderful day in our home. We are both so very happy to be here.

Kind of bad news first: We head to the doc's office on Friday afternoon with our fabulous nurse (Karen) who agreed to help us get there...and our now one and only car dies out on the highway and smoke pours out of the vents. What do we do now???? Car starts back up, but must go into the garage because something major seems to be wrong and we just drove out the warranty by going to Albuquerque all the time.

Tull may be developing a new pressure sore. We are still dealing with an old loaner wheel chair and awaiting the delivery of the new chairs. It still takes two of us to move him and he probably needs to be moved more often than we are able to do at this time. Lucinda will be on the phone to deal with this in the morning.

Good news: JHT's doc thinks that he looks great. He is amazed that he is even alive, but commented that he still is one good looking guy even after all of this (Lucinda agrees). Tull is walking very well with his PT and is so happy and proud that he could just about burst. He LOVES being able to do this work at his home.

We are very in love with each other and are so very happy to be in our house. We have some unbelievable friends who have been here during this time when we have been so in need of help. We have had great caregivers who we have hired. We are not sure how we can thank all of you. Special thanks tonight to Talitha from the United Church of Santa Fe and to Brenda and her church in Caribou, Maine.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 25-26, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We have been so busy adapting to home that we have failed to update you all. It is late Friday morning and we are awaiting our friend Kerri who will help Tull move out of his wheelchair and into a regular chair.

Our days start with a home health aid who we have hired who helps Lucinda get Tull out of bed. We still need two people to safely help Tull transfer so we depend on the morning and evening home health aids as well as friends who are scheduled to come by during the days or early evenings. Our friends have proven to be invaluable to us as they help JHT with exercises and often prepare meals.

A physical therapist is coming three days a week and we are hoping that insurance approves an occupational therapist. This is a critical time as we do not want to back-track on the great progress that we made while in rehab in Albuquerque. A nurse comes every afternoon to start John's IV antibiotic.

JHT is sleeping in a hospital bed which we rented as we found it impossible to help him up from the much lower position of our own bed. He has incentive to work on that particular move.

Lucinda has been more overwhelmed than ever, but we are both starting to find a routine.

Keep the messages coming, dear friends.

Love,
John and Lucinda

P.S. The sign was made by Ginny and Brad who found the components while hiking in the area.

Update June 24, 2003

We had a full day again. Tull was very tired from his doc appointment yesterday and so slept a bit late. We had help today from Malinda and Tom Joyce. We also had great help from our hired hand (Roland). Lucinda got on the phone today to plead with Blue Cross/Blue Shield to keep a nurse coming to start the daily IV therapy and to check John's PICC line and skin bleeding.

This is perhaps the most joyous and yet frightening time of our journey. It is very tricky to be at home alone after 24/7 care for 8 months.

Many thanks to all who have written and who have been here to help.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 23, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Hectic day. Getting in to town to see the doctor was quite an ordeal. He will now make house calls as he realized it is a bit much at the moment for us to get to town and for JHT to sit up that long in a wheelchair. Great doc who has treated more plague cases than anyone in the country. We were so relieved to meet him and to know that he will be caring for JHT for a while.

The in-house PT had Tull walking on the portal today. We had David Smith here much of the day, Rick (the photographer) here to help with getting to the doc, Roland (the home health aid) in the morning and the evening and Karen (the IV nurse) here for a bit in the afternoon.

We are so grateful for the help. We are so happy to read all the recent messages.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 22, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Can you imagine Lucinda giving Tull his meds through an IV? Can you imagine us calling our very dear friends and neighbors to come over to help move Tull from one chair to another? Can you picture Lucinda making jello?

Well, this is kind of the Tull/Marker life at this point. Mr. T. is doing very well in terms of staying up and moving around. Tomorrow will be filled with therapy and a doc appointment in town (we have friends and Lucinda's sister coming to help).

Pictures will be posted soon. Special thanks tonight to Roy and Judy.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 21, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We had a great day today. Wonderful friends have come in the last two days to help with everything from cooking, cleaning closets, sweeping floors, moving more furniture and helping to transfer Mr. Tull around the house. We also had professional help for a couple hours a day who we have hired to assist in showering, etc.

Things have stayed pretty busy and Tull has been up more than ever. He just loves sitting in a chair or on a couch in our living room and looking out the windows at the birds and the trees. Tonight we had diner out on the portal and it was quite beautiful. We are both just starting to realize that we really have come home.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 20, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

I write this as Tull sleeps. Today was extraordinary as so many days in the last 8 months have been. It is scary for the two of us to be alone with about 25 bottles of pills, IV therapy, blood tests, insulin shots, and on and on and on.

There have been a few friends here who have been great support. Thanks to all of them.

We will keep the website going......never fear.

Love,
Lucinda

Update June 19, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Just as our dear friend Judge E. said the other day, "Free at last, free at last, thank God, I'm free at last." For all of you not from Texas (like Lucinda) do check it out. This day is most significant.

We are both running on adrenalin. We are somewhat speechless.

Thanks to our very dear friends who made today so much easier than we thought it could be. Thanks to all of you who helped bring us to this day. We are humbled by all of you.

With more love and gratitude than you can imagine,

John and Lucinda

Update June 18, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

The test was unpleasant and long. Results were not conclusive, but still positive. Tull will need to be on intravenous antibiotics for 5 more weeks....at home.

226 nights in hospitals, 5 or 6 major holidays, a birthday, an anniversary, two graduations, one grand-birth, 8 months income-free and unburdened of the associated bourgeois activities (paying bills on time, shopping, etc.), not a drop to drink....we go home tomorrow and start Phase 3 of Operation Plague-Be-Gone.

With much love and gratitude,
John and Lucinda

Update June 17, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Much therapy today. Rick (one of the more aggressive PTs) had Tull walking unassisted about 80 ft. down the hallway today while nurses, other patients and therapists cheered him on. It was impressive.

Very early in the morning we will head to the hospital for an esophageal echo cardiogram. We hope to have the results soon after.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 16, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Jim Overton came this morning and made a video that we can use to train any and all willing friends who might help with rehab at home.

Tull did five therapy sessions today and Lucinda learned a few more things as well (like how to get a wheelchair up and over a curb).

Our target release date has been moved to Thursday as JT must go to the big hospital for a test Wednesday morning which will confirm whether or not his staph infection has affected his heart at all. The results of the test will determine for certain whether we will leave the hospital this week. We are preparing for release on Thursday.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 15, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

All three kids called JT for Father's Day.

He was spruced up by a nice haircut done by our multi-talented favorite Nurse Fatima.

We were visited today by Julie Ann, Bill and Katherine.

A couple tests are scheduled in the next two days, but we are still headed home on Wednesday (as far as we know)!!

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 14, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Resting, fighting infection, walked a bit today, feeling better.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 13, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull is having phantom pain right now in his left leg. The rest of the day, however, was much improved over yesterday. The docs confirmed that he has a staph infection which was most likely caused by the previous picc line. He is on very strong anti-biotics which seem to be working pretty well. He felt quite a bit better today and was able to withstand therapy.

We are still on target to be released on the 18th, although he will have to continue the intra-venous meds for a few weeks. We will need to have in-home nursing to attend to the picc line and IVs.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 11 - 12, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We have had a couple bad days. Tull developed a fever Tuesday night and did not feel great Wednesday morning. We had to go off campus for an appointment and as we returned to the hospital he became nauseated and very chilled. His entire body was shivering by the time we got back to his room. They put him on oxygen and gave him a battery of tests. The doc wanted to send him to the ER, but Tull insisted that he stay. It has been determined that he has a bacterial infection which may have been caused by.....you guessed it....the picc line.

So today we spent most of the day in the big hospital where they re-installed a picc line so that they can give him some heavy duty antibiotics and an IV and also draw blood. The infectious disease doctor wanted him to go the step-down ICU, but he fought his way out of that one as well. No one can blame him. Enough is enough.

No rehab until they get this under control. We are just hoping that the anti-biotics kick in fast. Thanks to Shelby for spending the day with us. We both really needed the support.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 9, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

The therapists are working JHT to the extreme in order to prepare for his release. He had five different therapy sessions today and had to take a couple rounds of pain pills.

We still have a fair amount to do before June 18th. Quite frankly, we can't quite believe that we will be leaving a hospital setting after these 32 long, long weeks.

Al Rackstraw and Doug Hall came by today. Doug brought one of his new photography books.

For those inquiring minds, a "pick" line is a fancy IV that entered through Tull's bicep and went almost to the neck. They have a tendency to get infected (like all other lines) and so we are really glad that it is out of here.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 8, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

No visitors today. We spent the day reading in between therapy sessions. Tull walked around 70 ft. with almost no complaining.

The pick line was removed today and so once again Tull is absolutely free of artificial holes in his body!! Great relief.

The Santa Fe New Mexican ran an excellent article today about our ordeal. Take a look at santafenewmexican.com.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 7, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull was a slacker and only walked about 70 ft. today (it is the weekend). Frank and Toni came by. Frank has been a truly great friend by dealing with the mountains of insurance paper-work and trying to make sense of it all.

We want to say a very special thank you to madame x (mdmx) who created and has diligently updated this website for nearly 8 months. Her efforts have been far beyond the call of duty. She was extra busy with business this past week and her husband/business partner (dbx) was away working on a movie.

We read, talked and did range of motion exercises. More walking tomorrow.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 6, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Many visitors today. Custis, Ben, Frank, Bill and Karen. Tull had 4 different therapy sessions today and was energetic throughout.

We've included one of Rick Scibelli's pictures. Tull hoofing it around on the 2nd floor of the hospital.

Onward through the weekend.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 4, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We love hearing from you first-time posters. Good to know you're out there.

Another 100 ft. today plus weight machines and car "transfers". Tom J. spent the morning at the hospital and learned care-giver techniques. A tuckered out Tull this evening.

Picture is from Katy's graduation breakfast. Trey, Liza and Mona helped celebrate.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda

Update June 3, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

We have been reminded that as time goes on it is more difficult for people to stay connected. There are times when we take people and help for granted. Please know that we appreciate every bit of help we have received and that we love all of the messages on the website.Thank you all.

Tull did well today.Lucindas sister Malinda was the major assist today and so she did not have time to take a pic.We are just so happy that Tull is moving forward and has done so very well.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 2, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

What a great Monday. Tull beat his record by walking 100 ft. and with only a fairly nervous Lucinda holding onto his belt. She was amazed at his strength. His progress has just been phenomenal in the last week. Current ETD from this hospital is June 18th. We feel quite confident about that date.

We spent some time with a writer from the Santa Fe New Mexican today who is planning a story for next Sunday. We also had visits from Ken, Kelly and her husband Ben.

Many thanks to those of you who have responded to our request for help here at the hospital so that Lucinda can work. It is especially great that some of you are coming in for training to help us out when we get home.

Attached you will find a picture of the tough guy with some roses from our garden.

Love,
John and Lucinda

Update June 1, 2003

Dear Friends and Family,

Tull walked 80 ft. today even though it was Sunday! He has now walked 6 days in a row. We worked this evening on many of his exercises and his strength is almost improving by the minute.

Katy graduated from high school today and we were very sorry that we could not attend the ceremony. We are very proud of her.

Love to all,
John and Lucinda
